FOR THOSE TRAVELING EYES

FOR THOSE TRAVELING EYES

We’ve been noticing our patients are enjoying traveling more and more lately, making up for the lost time over the past few years. We know the joy of getting out and exploring new places and coming back rejuvenated, but what about our eyes? Sometimes these new environments can actually be hard on our eyes. Here are some tips to keep things smooth sailing on your next adventure!

Always be prepared

I mean, the boy scouts clearly are on to something! But seriously, we can’t stress enough that you just never know what happens when you travel. We’ve heard of lost luggage, broken glasses, and even the ocean thought it needed your glasses more than you did! Definitely bring those backup glasses with you, and probably keep them in your carry-on, just to be safe. If you wear reusable contacts, pack an extra pair or two than what you think you’ll need. If you wear dailies, definitely come with extras as well!

That dryness is real

If your next trip includes a flight, be prepared to bring your artificial tears with you as well. In the cabin pressure of an airplane, it is normal for your eyes to feel extra dry. I like to use an extra drop before the flight, have them handy on the flight, and definitely a good thick gel drop before bed the night after the flight. Anytime you travel to a different area, the weather change can certainly mess with our bodies sense of normal. Even though you may be going to a climate that seems similar to where you live, it has different allergens and air that your eyes may not be used to. For me, dryness is bound to happen anywhere I go, so those tear drops go with me as well! If you are someone who gets itchy, you may be allergic to something in the air or environment in this new space. Just bring some allergy drops with you to keep the itching at bay.

Squeaky clean

You never know what may get on those glasses or sunglasses, whether it’s just sweat from running from place to place, fingerprint smudges, or other unknowns. We recommend leaving space in your liquids bag for your eyeglasses spray to make sure your glasses stay clean to do your best sightseeing. Don’t forget to bring along a microfiber cloth as well. We recommend a spray safe to use on anti-reflective lenses followed by a microfiber cloth to avoid scratches.

your future may be bright

No matter where you go, we bet the sun will be around too! You can’t forget your sunglasses, not only to complete your resort or beach look, but also to keep those eyes safe from UV rays. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Just bring your sunnies.. yes, probably multiple! Gotta have options!

We wish you safe travels this year and fun exploring new areas making up for the years of cut travel ventures! Don’t forget these tips for one less thing to worry about!
